Better Than Average Shower Filter Review
The average shower filter review is written by a consumer, presumably one that uses the brand that he or she is promoting. I am not going to mention any brand names in this article, but I am going to tell you how you can find the best product and save money too.
I have a showerhead filter and a purifier on my kitchen tap. My original goal was to get rid of the chlorine smell and odor. The source of our water is a polluted river, teeming with bacteria. The only way that our facility can make this water drinkable is by using numerous purification steps and large amounts of chlorine.
Despite their best efforts, we still run the risk of cyst exposure, if we drink or brush our teeth with unfiltered water. Cysts are tiny protozoa that are resistant to the disinfection methods used by public treatment facilities. They can cause chronic stomach problems or serious gastrointestinal illnesses. A kitchen purifier must include a sub-micron sized filter to remove them.
Chlorine Reduction
Chlorine removal is relatively simple and inexpensive. All it takes is granular carbon or a carbon block. The amount of chlorine-reduction that a product can provide depends on whether granules or a block design is used. Blocks are more effective.
I compared the product performance data for the most popular showerhead filters and found that some of them only reduce the chlorine content by half, while others remove more than 90%. Interestingly, they all cost between $70 and $90. There is one very expensive product on the market and believe me, after doing research, it is not worth the price. In order to find the best, without spending a fortune, you just have to read product performance data.
Facts about THMs
Trihalomethanes or THMs are present in any publicly treated supply, but in our area, they are particularly high. Bacteria in the river and the disinfectants necessary to remove them are the cause.
In recent studies, researchers have firmly stated that the amount we are normally exposed to doubles our risk of bladder cancer. That’s in the average home.
Some regulating agencies still maintain that the only exposure risk is through drinking, but researchers have measured blood levels after a 15 minute shower and found that they are higher than after drinking a liter of unfiltered water. You see, the chemicals become airborne and we inhale them. We also absorb them through our skin.
The Benefits
The average showerhead system does not remove THMs. The benefits of owning the best are numerous. My hair and skin look better. My scalp and back are no longer itchy. And, because I chose the best system, I don’t have to worry about THM exposure and I spent less than $70, because I got a special price. Hopefully, this shower filter review will help you find the best and save money!
